Burlington IN Real Estate, Burlington Area and Community Information

Burlington is a tiny community that is located in Northern Indiana just a short distance from Lafayette. This is an unincorporated town that is part of Carroll County. Burlington is home to several churches, a variety of small businesses and hundreds of beautiful Burlington homes.

History of Burlington

During Burlington's earliest years, the area was filled with a dense forest and thick underbrush that made it difficult for pioneers to settle in the area. However, a few persistent settlers did just that after moving into the area during 1827. One of these settlers was a man by the name of David Stipp.

Stipp split the area into 92 separate plots of land, and with the help of other settlers, he began clearing the area. They dubbed their little settlement Burlington after a Wyandot Chief named Burlington. Although Stipp died in 1848, Burlington slowly grew adding such businesses as a tavern, grist mill, school, a general store, hotel and a saw mill. Today, Burlington has even more small businesses and a variety of lovely homes.
