History

In 1833, a section of Jackson Township was sold for $1,600. From time to time, the commissioner of the township would sell off parts of the township to raise funds for the school district. Five acres of this particular land purchase was set aside, and a town that was to become Camden was platted.

Parks and Recreation

Deer Creek Park is a 12.7-acre facility located on State Road 218 to the south of Camden. The park includes a well-equipped clubhouse that includes an electrical hook up, tables, chairs and a refrigerator. It is popular for family reunions and other special events. The large fishing lake will entertain anglers of all ages. The lake was created from a former quarry. It includes largemouth bass, bluegills and catfish. No license is needed to fish here. The playground equipment has been renovated and updated, and there is also a basketball court.
