Delphi, Indiana

Delphi, IN Real Estate, Delphi Area and Community Information
Delphi, Indiana, is the county seat of Carroll County. The community of about 3,000 citizens is just a 20-minute drive to Lafayette, which lies to the southwest of Delphi.
History
The community is named for the ancient Greek community of Delphi. The Wabash and Erie Canal was constructed through town in the 1840s. The canal allowed boats to pass from the Great Lakes all the way to the Ohio River. At 460 miles in length, the Wabash and Erie Canal was the longest artificial waterway ever constructed in North America. Excessive repair costs and competition from the railroads doomed the project, and the canal ceased to operate in the 1850s.
